Goldman Sachs All star code program

Goldman Sachs hosted the All Star Code (ASC) program in summer, inviting 25 high school students to spend six weeks at the firm’s New York office in an intensive training that focused on computer science skills, leadership and mentoring.

ASC is a nonprofit organization founded in 2013 by Christina Lewis Halpern, daughter of Reginald Lewis, the prominent African-American lawyer and businessman who inspired her efforts. The program provides mentorship, tech-industry exposure, and intensive computer-science training to high-school boys of color, hoping to close the opportunity gap in the tech industry for this underrepresented group.

Acceptance is need-blind, with more than half of the participating students coming from low-income families.

SalesForce Futureforce program - Hires 80% of its interns!

Our internships are paid positions that offer you the chance to grow and receive meaningful work experience. We offer internship opportunities to undergraduate- and graduate-level students. They typically run for 12 weeks during the summer in our HQ offices and 4-6 months throughout the year in our EMEA/Europe locations. As an intern, you'll work in a professional, collaborative environment under the supervision of a manager and the direction of a mentor and take on exciting, challenging, high-visibility projects. Meanwhile, the University Programs team will provide you with career guidance and coaching opportunities.

We also have some select co-op opportunities, which are often longer-term assignments through which you can receive academic credit, (depending on your university requirements) and some opportunities to work on your masters thesis.

Our traineeships will help you make your first step in the business world. You will be trained up and work alongside seasoned professionals to help get most out of your experience. You will get your own projects and responsibilities from the start on to quickly get yourself acquinted with the company and our business.

Our Traineeships usually run 3-6 months with an eye on your personal development in the business. Around 80% of our trainees got converted last year into a full time permanent position.

Apply to Job search startup Koru by Aug 11th 2014 - teams up with WSU to boost students’ job opportunities

Koru announced today that Washington State University has become the latest educational institution to partner with the Seattle-based startup, helping students build work experience and find jobs out of college.

The company, led by Onvia co-founder Kristen Hamilton, partners with employers– especially technology firms –to place students for short stints of employment. That, in turn, is meant to connect students with potential employers, or at least help them build their resumé and develop skills they need to succeed in the working world.

“It makes sense to join forces with Koru as an innovator in education, especially with their founding programs and great employer partnerships in Washington State,” Washington State University President Elson S. Floyd said in a press release.

A partnership makes sense for Koru and WSU students. Out of the 31 students who graduated from the company’s June program in Seattle, 14 were eligible for jobs. Eight of those 14 pupils have already been hired, or 57 percent of the total eligible workforce. Overall, 70 percent of Koru graduates (not including those who just completed their program in July) have been placed in a job.

The company, which raised a $4.35 million funding round late last year from Maveron, Battery Ventures, First Round Capital and Andreessen Horowitz, already has 13 educational partners lined up.

WSU will be joining a group of institutions that includes Whitman College, Georgetown University, Pomona College, University of Southern California and Vassar College.

Koru will be starting up its first program in San Francisco right after Labor Day. People interested in taking part in Koru’s September program in Seattle have until August 11 to apply. Those who want to apply can do so here.

2014 Summer analysts hiring practices@Investment banks

Source: CNBC; article by Michael J. Moore, Date: 24th June 2014

Topic: 2014 Investment banking Summer analyst practices.

Undergrad summer analysts and Associates: The title of analyst typically is used for undergraduate students who intern for the summer who are different from research analysts who recommend stocks to investors. Associates are usually graduate school students.

Wall street industry programs: Wall Street firms have been touting the selectivity of their programs for recruiting junior talent to counter worries that they’re less attractive employers in the wake of the financial crisis. The acceptance rate of less than 2 percent is lower than Harvard College’s 5.9 percent for the coming year’s freshman class.

Firms: Morgan Stanley (MS), owner of the world’s largest brokerage, received about 90,000 applications for its summer program for analysts and associates. More than 1,000 people, or roughly 80 percent who received offers, accepted a spot and began working in the past few weeks. Morgan Stanley’s 2014 summer class hails from more than 275 schools. The number of applicants is higher than last year.

More than 80 percent of those who were offered a spot for its summer program for analysts and associates had accepted.

Goldman Sachs - In 2013 its investment-banking division, selected 350 summer analysts from a pool of more than 17,000 applicants.
